The International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) represents over 400,000 working people across the United States and Canada. Members of the IUOE are primarily operating engineers, who work as heavy equipment and crane operators, pipeliners, mechanics, and surveyors in the construction industry, and stationary engineers.

Operating Engineers Local 234 are the driving force behind Central Iowa’s construction and infrastructure projects. Our highly skilled members operate and maintain the heavy equipment that builds the backbone of our communities—cranes, bulldozers, excavators, and more. From moving earth and setting steel to paving roads and installing utilities, our work ensures precision, safety, and efficiency on every job site.

Operating Engineers are not only experts in handling machinery but are also trained in advanced technology, safety protocols, and environmental practices. Whether constructing skyscrapers, highways, or wind farms, Local 234 members are proud to lay the foundation for Iowa’s growth and progress.
